The Baywood showhome is a spacious, four-bedroom family home by Miller Homes. Our managing director, Andy Richardson, shares some of the secrets behind the design…

What type of house hunter is The Baywood designed to appeal to?

Styling for The Baywood focuses on family living, entertaining and the great outdoors. It’s aimed at parents and young teenagers with an active social life, who enjoy being together but also pursuing individual hobbies. Shared spaces like the kitchen/breakfast room and living room have plenty of seating and opportunities to gather formally and informally, while the bedrooms showcase expressions of personality.

What is the inspiration behind the design and colour palette?

Nearby Elmhurst Chase is the Kilkenny Lane Country Park, so our design has strong connections to nature throughout. For example, feature walls with botanical print wallpaper or a hand-painted mural of a cyclist in the woods. Its colour/material palette comprises deep blues, forest green, terracotta, black iron and wood.

What current trends have been incorporated into the design?

One of the most popular TikTok trends right now is grandmillennial, where traditional styling is given a modern twist. Part of this incorporates plenty of punchy patterns and bold colours, so we’ve drawn inspiration from this trend to create a modern country aesthetic.

Wall treatments are another hot trend, and easy to replicate too. In The Baywood’s main bedroom we’ve used panelling alongside wallpaper for an upmarket guest house appearance, in the study a band around the ceiling makes an eye-catching feature, while bold wallpapers in the downstairs cloakroom and utility room ensure even the smallest rooms are memorable!

What are the main statement pieces?

For one of the teenage bedrooms, we designed a TikTok theme using the brand’s signature colours on the walls and in the fabrics for the headboard and window dressing. It’s the ultimate backdrop for a young house hunter’s next video!

As this home is designed for a family who like to entertain, we made sure the family/breakfast room had plenty of options to gather. Bar stools around the kitchen peninsular allow for guests to chat, or children to sit and do homework while dinner is prepared; a six-seater dining table adjacent the French doors is perfect for indoor/outdoor dining; and a freestanding drinks cabinet offers stylish storage.
